THEATER CLINICS

Avenue Q

With 42nd Street Tours, your theater group can take part in customized clinics with professional actors, directors, choreographers, producers, make-up artists and production team members from Broadway shows. Clinics are generally 1 ½ to 2 hours and take place in various midtown studios.

CHOOSE YOUR CLINIC:

STAGE COMBAT

Stage Combat, taught by certified instructors, explores the art of realistic fight choreography through step by step demonstration and illustrates the amount of work involved in the creation and execution of even the simplest of stage effects and the importance of practice and preparation.

ACTING IMPROVISATION
Acting Improvisation highlights the benefits of taking risks and trusting instincts by using improvisation games that focus on group awareness, listening and answering, and creative play.
MUSICAL THEATER
Musical Theater explores the art of marrying music and drama effectively to achieve great emotional impact. Working with a professional theatre director or musical director and cast member, your group will be coached through basic warm-ups and exercises. Several participants will then be given the opportunity to present prepared material for critique and analysis, focusing on musical and acting interpretation.
THE BUSINESS OF THE BUSINESS
From headshots and resumes to agents and casting directors, this program covers the basics of what tools one needs to pursue a career in the performing arts. Various exercises will illustrate the casting process and give participants the chance to experience a "Cold Reading Audition", emphasizing the importance of how to confidently present yourself under stressful situations.
ACTING SHAKESPEARE
Through script analysis, participants are able to demystify the aspects of classical theatre. Shakespeare's plays were written in a time when directors were rarely used, and special attention was given to the clues and hints incorporated into the writing that help performers choose acting beats and character intention.
THEATER DANCE AND MOVEMENT
Your group will learn a typical Broadway combination taught by a professional dancer/choreographer and will have the opportunity to experience the pace, pressure and exhilaration of a dance audition. This program promotes the value of physical fitness, commitment to training and can be adjusted to your group's level of expertise. The dance combinations taught can be from the show you are seeing.
MAKE-UP/COSTUME DESIGN
Through demonstrations applied to volunteers, learn the basics of make-up application and effect-rendering from a professional make-up artist. Learn about how costumes are chosen and how each costume brings shows to life.
SET/TECHNICAL DESIGN
Designed to introduce the Drama student to the processes, materials and equipment for the planning, fabrication, painting, rigging, and handling of stage scenery and properties. It is also intended to provide an understanding of theatre spaces, and to provide an introduction to sound applications and stage management.
